I'M NEW

Welcome!

First Baptist Church is a place where people can meet Jesus, engage in life-giving community, and everyone is welcome.

We believe in creating a space where people can have authentic encounters with Christ, discover their gifts, and use them for God's glory.

What does that look like here? If you're planning a visit, see below for some Frequently Asked Questions. We look forward to having you as our honored guest soon!

Frequently asked questions

What is your worship style?

We like to describe our style as "traditional with a smile."  Why?  We worship God in mostly what's understood as "traditional" in our culture, but in a warm environment, where smiling faces reflect the joy Christ brings us.  We do enjoy trying new things during worship, which are certainly seen from time to time.

How do most people dress on Sundays?

You will find that most of our members dress in "Sunday best" on Sundays during the school year; however, some of our members are dressed casually in jeans, as well.  Bottom line: "Come as you are" is much more important to us.  Our congregation collectively observes "casual Sundays" during the summer, but again, members and guests are accepted as they come, regardless of attire.

What do you believe?

A.W. Tozer once wrote, "What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us."  Our church's statements of belief can be found by reading the Baptist Faith & Message of 1963, here

Is there something for my child(ren) during worship?

Yes. We have a nursery available for infants through three year-olds and we have children's church for four year-olds through first graders.  And that's just on Sundays during worship! Click here to find out more about our children's ministries and here to find out more about our youth ministries.

Where do I park?

Being a downtown church means that parking can be interesting, especially during peak seasons of tourism!  The majority of our members and guests  utilize the large parking lot across the street from the church building near the railroad tracks. There are some parking spaces available along Research Campus Drive and along West Avenue as well.

Limited handicapped parking is available near our covered entrance in the circle.  Our Baptist Men offer a complimentary valet service for those needing assistance (handicapped, elderly, new mothers, etc.).

How do I become a member of First Baptist?

The quick version: Membership can be by  a) Believer's Baptism b) Transfer of Letter c) Statement of Faith.  Those desiring membership will necessarily need to share the beliefs of First Baptist Church as outlined here, including baptism by immersion, as our "Baptist" name indicates. At the conclusion of Sunday worship services, we have a time of invitation. During this time you may come forward and visit with the Pastor about your intentions. He will pray with you and direct you towards the next step for membership. You may also indicate your intentions on one of our digital or paper connect cards and drop it in an offering plate or hand it to an usher. You will be contacted that week as a follow up to your decision(s).  Why become a member?  All members have a voice in the church operations through their votes.  Also, though we show care to all who are a part of our church family, regardless of membership status, those who are members have a designated deacon assigned to their family to ensure any needs are known and cared for right away, and passed on to the pastoral staff as needed. Members are also on the church directory, which makes it easier to send and receive church communication.

HOW DO I BECOME A CHRISTIAN?

Following Christ is what we're all about.  As our mission statement says, "For the glory of God, First Baptist Church of Kannapolis, NC is committed to: Proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ; preparing people with the Word of God; penetrating our community and world with a Spirit-filled lifestyle, and Christ-like love; and producing disciples for Christ, built up in truth and grace."

When we trust Christ as Savior, the relationship with Him begins that day and lasts forever. Our relationship with Jesus seals our eternal destinies, and offers hope, purpose, and meaning to our lives on earth in the meantime. What does this look like and where does one begin on this journey of faith?  See below for some tips on getting started.

If you have questions or doubts, that's okay-- ask about them!  If you trust Christ as Savior and wonder "what's next," please fill out the "Contact Us" form below and let us know. Being a part of a church family is a great next step.
